5 Ways Riding an E-Bike is Great for Your Health
7th April is World Health Day, so the time is right to think about how we can all take steps toward living a healthier lifestyle. Luckily for us, regular rides on an e-bike are a perfect way to make manageable but meaningful improvements to our health. Read on for five ways in which your e-bike can help build a healthier you.
And remember, when it comes to exercise, an e-bike is not cheating (seriously, look it up).
A balanced workout
Pushing yourself when it comes to exercise is fine, but you’ve got to know when you’ve reached your limit and it’s time to wind down. E-bikes do provide a workout, but have an advantage over conventional bicycles in that on longer rides, you can take a break and still keep going, letting the motor do the work and getting back to the work out whenever you feel ready.
Cardiovascular health
In terms of which parts of your body cycling can help the most, your cardiovascular system is right up there, making regular cycling a perfect way to improve your level of overall fitness. By strengthening your heart muscles, lowering your resting pulse and reducing blood fat levels, cycling can effectively reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases including strokes, high blood pressure and heart attacks.
Heart health
Multiple studies have shown a positive link between regular cycling and heart health, finding that daily cycling correlates with a lower risk of heart disease in general. The faster, stronger beating of the heart that occurs while cycling will, overtime, mean that your heart strains less to pump blood around your body, putting it under less pressure and at lower risk of failure.
Immune system
The improved circulation that comes from regular cycling helps your white blood cells travel around the body as much as they need, which is essential to a healthy immune system. Even just 30 minutes a day of moderate exercise can help. A few years ago, one study showed that cycling specifically “can hold back the effects of ageing and rejuvenate the immune system”.
Better Sleep
Many of us have sleep issues ranging from the mild to the more severe, and one of the best ways to get a better handle on your sleeping pattern is regular exercise. Studies have shown that declines in fitness lead to poorer sleep, and as we’ve established, cycling is a great way to keep your fitness levels in the clear.
So, if you’re feeling too tired for a ride, maybe it’s time to… go for a ride!
